WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT

During your initial consultation appointment, we perform some diagnostic tests to determine whether a root canal is recommended. This many include some X-rays and clinical tests. In some cases, a CT scan may be taken. We discuss with you whats involved during the treatment process and the prognosis of your treatment. We review your medical history and may make recommendation for premedication with an antibiotic for certain medical conditions. If you are experiencing discomfort or “toothache” pain we always make the time to address and often times start your treatment immediately.

Most root canal appointments only a simple local anesthetic will be given to make you comfortable during your treatment. if you are anxious about your dental treatment we offer adjunctive therapies ranging from nitrous oxide to IV sedation for your comfort.

Your root canal treatment begins with the isolation of your tooth with a piece of latex or latex alternative. The treatment consists of a few steps - ( cleaning, shaping and filling the root canal system) and afterwards you are referred back to your general dentist. Most root canal treatments take one or two visits. This depends on the degree of infection/ inflammation and degree of treatment difficulty. It is extremely important to us to never rush your treatment and do the very best we can. We will work closely with you and your dentist to meet your individualized expectations.

FOLLOWING ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

After the completion of your root canal therapy we will contact you to come back for a no charge recall appointment usually between 6-12 months.

Certain root canal cases may take up to 2 years to heal completely and we continue to monitor your tooth closely over this time period. It is very important to us to make sure your tooth has healed or is healing properly. If you have any questions or wish us to check a tooth that has completed treatment please contact our office and we will be happy to evaluate the area of concern.
